Research
(topic, team involved, details - introduction, achievements)
The scientific activity of our department is focused on various aspects of the activity of blood cells as well as central and peripheral lymphatic organs in animals. These goals are accomplished with taking into consideration environmentally mediated functions of the neuroendocrine- and immune systems and hemostasis disorders.
At present, many therapeutic failures in animals are deemed to have resulted from hemostasis disorders. In human pathology, consequences of these disorders have become a matter of interest not only to investigators but, first and foremost, to clinicians. Assessment of the capacity of mechanisms of both primary and secondary hemostasis has become a routine, especially in surgery.
Problems concerning the role of mechanisms of hemostasis and their species-to-species variability as well as hemostasis disorders in the development of pathologic conditions in animals, have come to the fore in scientific activities of the staff of our department.
Nowadays, the following scientific issues are addressed:
- Ontogenesis of hemostasis in various animal species
- Looking for factors having a modulatory activity for components of hemostasis
- Assessment of platelet function in the course of various diseases, with particular emphasis on the role of platelets in pathogenesis of disorders accompanying colic- and allergic conditions in horses
- Preconditions and feasibility of the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as the source of growth factors for therapy of diseases of the movement organs and in regenerative medicine in horses.
